An Android App a day - 30. TRUECALLER

Hi Guys,

This series of Android Apps was stopped due to the non-availability of wifi internet connection at my home. The life without internet is tough but I did survived well but it impacted my Indirank and it dropped significantly.

Truecaller is an important app during these days where telemarketers really suck your time and money. They call at unwanted times and continue to ask questions even if you are not interested in buying Credit card or hotel membership or personal loan or insurance or ULIP products. They have been doing aggressive marketing now directly making acute personal remarks as I recall one of them selling me an insurance product asked why can’t you take a decision yourself? You have grown up blah blah blah when I asked him that I don’t want any other insurance. I immediately put my number into the STOP DND list.

This app can help us all save from this pain as we can identify who is calling us and whether we want to pick up the phone? Sometimes we are in important meetings and an unknown number call really makes us think, who is calling? Is it important? Etc and by getting to know the name of the person, we can have some idea as to who is who?

Truecaller will really help you to know the name and identity of the calling person. It does requires Wifi or data connection to be in ON condition. You can block the calls received from SPAM numbers. Also, it has integrated with twitter so that you can follow your callers using this app only.

Overall it’s a nice app with a rating of 4.5/5. Go for it! It really helps.

Product Review - Old Spice Deodorant Spray

Hi Guys,

Old Spice has been in the market since 75 years and has been able to create an own niche in men’s shaving range of products. I have always been fascinated since childhood towards the red bottle of Old Spice after shave lotion. I have used my uncle’s bottle of Old Spice several times whenever I used to get some wounds while playing or just for the cool fragrance. 

The very first time I bought my own bottle of Old Spice Whitewater and Musk after shave lotion was in Hyderabad when I was doing my MBA. I still remember it was on sale combining two lotions in one pack. I immediately bought two Old Spice After shave lotion packs (one for me and other one for dad) and they really served me long. In between I switched to Clarins as I got that as a gift from my brother in law and as soon as that one was over, I bought Gillette but I dearly missed my red bottle.

As life events happened, I moved to Johannesburg and my roommate gifted me Old Spice Musk in this small white bottle. It felt like a home coming while being outside the country. I was really happy to use the same.

Meanwhile, I always wanted to use their deodorant range and wanted to break away from the fascination owards BRUT. Old Spice new red deodorant spray cans with several versions namely Kilimanjaro, Hawkridge and Wolfthorn really motivated me to buy them immediately. I bought them from the nearest Pick n Pay store.

I really felt in love with their fresh and refreshing fragrance and long lasting effect. All the versions are great and I really loved this new range of Old Spice deodrants. Try one for yourself and you will like them too!

Movie Review - Disco Singh

Hi Guys,

Disco Singh is another Punjabi movie from the makers of Jatt & Juliet. The movie is a great time pass movie with lot of good jokes and great acting by various actors. Do watch it for if you are a fan of their series. Anurag Singh has been able to recreate all the fun using the same characters in a new avatar.

Diljit Dosanjh plays an orchestra owner whose fortune changes overnight and he gets what he always wanted by the grace of almighty Lord. How it happens and what it brings for everyone is the whole theme of the movie. I really loved Diljit in this new avatar. The movie is shot around Delhi so you will see a lot of known locations.The movie has shown some actions scenes which were not part of the earlier series which are really funny.

Surveen Chawla looked great in all the songs and movie. She acted really well as a model. This movie also introduced Apoorva Arora as one of the heroine who falls in love with the main character.

The movie also has the Buaji (Upasna Singh)  of ComedyNights with Kapil along with the old servant (Chandan Prabhakar) of the show. Both of them together have created a laughing riot in their various scenes. 

The best role of the movie is of the Don played by Manoj Pahwa and his two assistants 21 and 22 - played by B. N. Sharma & Karamjit Anmol as brothers. B. N. Sharma really created a new act and brings smiles to the faces by his acting.

Overall it's a great watch and you will like the movie a lot.

Product Review - The Body Shop - For Men - MACA ROOT

Hi Guys,

I was introduced to The Body Shop product range by my brother who gifted me MACA ROOT range of products from the men's range when he came on holidays to India from USA. I have been using Gillette shaving products before using these ones.

The gift pack comes in a nice toiletries bag containing four tubes - Shave Cream, Face Wash, Face Protector and Razor Relief - all from the Peruvian maca root. The gift pack offers the whole range required for men for their daily shaving range except for Razors.

The best part about this shaving cream is the amount of cream that you need to apply for shaving. Only a small pinch of cream on your finger is enough to produce a lot of foam to glide the razor easily on your face.  The fragrance is awesome and your skin feels refreshed after the shaving. I really loved this cream so much that I bought another gift pack for myself in London. The Body Shop products are available at a lot of discounts in sale in London. I made use of one of those sales and bought them at 50% discount.

Maca Root face wash is also great and I feel great every time I use it. One thing with these products is that they last really long if you are not using them daily.
Razor Relief does what it says and is to be used after shaving to cool any cuts happened during shaving.
Face Protector can be used anytime as and when required and is a general multipurpose cream for men.

I really like this entire range of products and now I am on the verge of finishing my second set of these products. I need to go and check out the Sandton City shop of The Body Shop for some sale or offers to continue using them for another years to come.

Movie Review - Jatt & Juliet 2

Hi Guys, 

Jatt & Juliet 2 have been able to recreate what the first part of the movie was famous for. The Jatt and Juliet broke all the records for box office collections in Punjabi Movie industry but the second one has outdone what records were created by the first part. Anurag Singh really made a niche for himself with these two movies.

I really loved the second part a lot and there are a lot of sarcasm and fun jokes about Punjab Police and difference between them and Vancouver Police in Canada. The story is not new but the treatment is amazingly great and refreshing. The movie will remind you of Namaste London and Jo Bole so Nihal. 

I really liked Diljit in this Dabangg avatar and songs are also nice. Neeru Bajwa looks amazingly beautiful just like ever and acted very well. Mr Chawla and Shampy continue to tickle your funny bones in this second part once again. Shampy continues to make his way to Canada in this movie also. The best part about the whole movie is the acting of Jaswinder Bhalla. I don’t think he needs any props or dressing to bring fun on the screen, even if the whole time camera is just focused on his face, he can bring laughter to everyone. He got a great comic timing and voice modulation by which he brings entertainment in every movie. The movie will never bore you for a single minute and I was laughing a lot during the whole time till the end. 

After watching the second part, I too wanted to see Canada for once in my life. The movie brought me a lot of memories of Hounslow & South Hall in London, UK which I have been to many times. It is a great atmosphere to be a part of extended Indian community in those areas and living the life which offers the best of both the worlds. It offers good income and Indian delicacies together which really motivates me to go and stay in London, UK once again.

Movie Review - Rio 2

Hi Guys,

I loved playing all the versions of Angry Birds and i hope that everyone loved it too. The time when it was announced that it will be used as a context to make a movie named Rio, I was much more than happy. But somehow in day to day living and earning, I was unable to watch the movie till the second part Rio 2 was released. 

I did watch the Rio2 on the very first week at Ster Kinekor  (twitter) without knowing anything about the Rio. I really loved the character Blu and Jewel & others on this adventure trip to the wild jungles of Amazon while their path was guided by the GPS lady. Then suddenly, Rio 2 was stuck with Meet the Fockers type of context, where father-in-law meets Blu and brings in the fun we always have been watching a lot in many movies. Then came the Harry Potter kind of flying soccer game which is really a great visual to the eyes if you have watched the movie in 3D. Also, there comes the most amazing colored kaleidoscope kind of song pictured on the birds. The jungles of amazon looks amazingly great and it brought a great social issue about the trees cutting making way for the theme parks and commercial buildings. Rio2 is more about sing along Frozen kind of movie. 

After watching the Rio2, I browsed through the DVD library and brought Rio home. I immediately fell in love with the part 1 of the movie. Rio 1 has many scenes and settings which we have seen in the Angry Birds Rio game. It offers so much more than the second part. It has action, drama, emotions and a story that builds slowly and offers a great entertainment. 

After watching Rio (2011), Rio 2 made much more sense but then also, it’s not the best that could be offered for all the small kids who are fans of these series. It’s my opinion but overall, I think my daughter would love to see Blu, Jewel and family again and again. Both the movies are entertaining and brings that the families should stay together and when they are together nothing is impossible for them to achieve.

#IndiSpire - I blog because of Indiblogger

Hi Guys, 

Getting enrolled into Indiblogger community was the biggest motivation factor that made me think of getting into writing a blog. I used to participate in a lot of contests on Facebook and used to win some. The goodies that used to come really motivated me to participate more and more. One day one of my friends came to our house and she told me that she has won an Amazon Kindle from one of the contests held by Sony TV on Indiblogger. She showed me the website and her posts and various meets and drives she attended. It used to be in 5 star hotels where in my salary, I never dreamed of going also. I immediately wanted to attend those meets and when I saw a lot many people winning awesome goodies at the meets, I was so glued to the same. 

I started my blog on blogger.com and posted some of the crappy photo posts so that I can reach some count to be inducted into the Indiblogger community. By the time I reached 15 posts, I was a part of Indiblogger community, thereafter I have never seen back. I won a lot of goodies from Indiblogger and met a lot of fellow bloggers. I have attended some awesome meets and wrote for many drives. It’s been a pleasure to meet all the people and share some part of our lives together during the meet. I loved when people recognize you automatically by your blog and meet you in those meets personally. We made a group of friends which still is together after a year of association. I learned various skills to make my blog noticed on a global level by buying the domain. My blogger friends set my blog for various admin settings and on how to set labels etc? It was a great learning which I received whenever I met them.

What keeps me going is the increasing numbers of page views every day and the target that I want to reach 100000 page views by the end of this year. Also, I want to reach 500 posts by the end of this year which will help me get there easily provided I am able to write a good content and take good photographs. 

As Indiblogger says, "I blog, therefore I am" which is really very true in my case as I continue to participate in all of the drives of the blog directory. Also, I have never won the top prize till now so that goal keeps me working hard and smart to attain that sooner. Whatever time I have after the office and on weekends, I think about my blog posts and increasing traffic on my blog. My blog is not making me money but it has given me much more pleasures and satisfaction that I am doing something creative at the end of the day. Also, I think that I have much strong will power and perseverance than others to carry on working on my blog from those who wants to start but are waiting for some miracle to happen.

It’s a great start as I just completed my first year in Indiblogger community and I will continue to strive whichever part of the world I am in. Kudos to Indiblogger and all the fellow bloggers!!!

Product Review - Royal Dansk Chocolate Chip Cookies

Hi Guys, 

Royal Dansk Chocolate Chip Cookies are great biscuits which you can have whenever you need to have some fun tingling with your taste buds. It’s really for all those people who love chocolate cookies. 

Being from the same brand Kelsen Group, the quality is always top class. Every penny you pay for the pack is worth the taste and satisfaction you get from each cookie. I have loved them and during EASTER long weekend, I offered them to my friends also. They also liked it and small pack of 100g was over in no time. It contains only 12 cookies so in a way, you can calculate how much cookies you will get as Royal Dansk have benchmarked their cookies. Every 25g is made up of 3 cookies.

Product Review - GAME - MyLight Wireless 12 LED Lamp

Hi Guys,

I keep checking various stores from the Walmart group which are here in Johannesburg and keep visiting GAME to check on the deals or reduced to go sale. Most of the items I buy here are from DionWired or Makro but now GAME has also been added to this list. These deals are not shown in their catalogs or sale items which really make me go visit the stores and check the special desks kept for reduced to go items.

I always wanted to have some white light as the bulbs installed in my home throw yellowish light. I came across a nice looking LED Lamp in GAME which was priced at ZAR 80. On my next visit to the store, the price was reduced to ZAR 60 making it a good deal.

The Mushroom shaped lamp comes in 4 colors - White, Black, Green and Pink. I chose the Black color as I really loved it.

The device runs on three AA sized batteries and has a touch button which switched on-off the lamp. 

 

The 12 LED lights glows and gives enough light to read on your kindle or books, work on your laptop and also helps me when I don't want to come out of my duvet early mornings and want light to wake me up.It is a multi-purpose device which can also work as a Lampshade on the side of your beds.

It is really a good China made product and the quality is nice. I hope it will serve my time here and thereafter. I also hope the DURACELL batteries delivers the same performance as it promises.This product is definitely a BUY and you can use it anywhere you want to.

Just saw the same lamp in SHERLOCK Season 3 episode 2 at around 45 min when Sherlock and John are shown drinking beer at several places and in one of the tables, the same lamp is lighting the table.

Twitter Goodies - Tata Crucible - The Business Quiz

Hi Guys,

TATA Crucible is the name of the competition which really makes me feel that I am lagging behind in search of knowledge and I am not upto the mark in reading and learning. I have been participating in the Corporate side of the competition but always fails to reach the regional levels. The first time I came across the competition was in 2005 when I was doing my MBA in Hyderabad. The level of questions is simply amazing. Though I am not able to reach the podium but I have been able to answers some of the questions that comes to audience and win several TATA Crucible goodies.

Tata Crucible twitter handle always host some interesting quiz for it's followers every friday where everyone gets a chance to win awesome goodies by showcasing their googling skills or general knowlege. Though my GK is not so great but my googling skills are nice so I got lucky to win these twitter contests.I received this awesome pendulum clock which I always wanted to showcase on my study table. I always feel proud that I won this TATA Crucible clock whenever I see it on my table.

Product Review - Sony Ericsson MW600

Hi Guys,

I always have been in love with the headphones and earphones and when it has the bluetooth technology built into the same, that's like icing on the cake. I have been looking for the perfect bluetooth device which can connect with my Nexus One and gives me the functionality to add my own pair of Sennheiser earphones to the device. Also, I wanted to have the functionality to change songs without taking my mobile phone out from my pocket or bag. These all features I was able to find in a device known as Sony Ericcson MW 600 which I ordered from Amazon. 

Sony Ericcson MW600 has also built in FM radio into the device. FM radio is a cool feature by which you don't need your mobile also when mobile battery is running low to listen to songs, news etc. It will keep you connected to the world on the go. It's a device full on features.
MW 600 comes with buttons to control play, pause, forward and rewind on one side of the panel.

The other side of the panel has a touch slider kind to control the volume up and down. The same will be shown on the display while you glide your finder on the button. Really cool feature.

The clip on the back helps the device stay on to your shirt or jacket.

The microphone is also built in for voice calling on the front panel of the device. Also the front panel shows the songs being played if you are using any of the Apple devices. There is a phone button to answer the call or disconnect the call. The device is really easy to setup with your phone. The device can be attached to two different mobiles, one laptop in one go. With built in rechargeable battery, it goes on for a long time.

The HPM-78 earphones that comes along with the device are good noise isolation earbuds. They produce nice sound quality and can be used to enjoy music as well as for voice calling.

Also with MW600, I can turn any normal speakers into bluetooth speakers controlling them from my mobile phone from far. This is one of the device which really offers so much in it's price.
