@Discovery_SA @JacarandaFM #SpringWalk Welcomed Spring With A Beat #Pretoria

Hi Guys,

The 6th Annual Discovery Jacaranda FM Spring Walk was a resounding success as Spring Walkers interacted with the Jacaranda FM talent such as Breakfast show team, Tumi Morake and Martin Bester who did the 5km walk as well as the rest of the Jacaranda FM team. Almost 9000 participants 'Walked to the Beat' to welcome Spring at the Discovery Jacaranda FM annual Spring Walk this past weekend at the Pretoria National Botanical Gardens.

Everyone was prepared to shake off their winter blues in 5km, 8km and 15km walks, and this year’s new addition of an 8km run for those who wanted to push their limits. Festivities kicked-off bright and early with Jacaranda FM’s Thabiso 'Mack' Rapapali and Carla McKenzie firing the opening shot for the 15km race.

With Discovery as a partner, this meant participants also earned Vitality points for their participation in the SpringWalk. “The partnership with Jacaranda FM is a perfect fit for us as it brings out the core values of both businesses”, said Discovery’s Head of Sponsorships and Experiential Marketing, Iona Maclean.

After the morning’s healthy exercise, Dewald Wasserfall and Rubber Duc rocked the crowds, while others gathered in front of the big screens to catch the rugby championship clash between Australia and the Springboks. South African celebrities and fitness experts were spotted enroute. These included our very own former Miss South Africa, Liesl Laurie; Gavin Edward and the Bulls Rugby players who all enjoyed watching the rugby match. While parents enjoyed the stellar line-up, Spar kiddies’ area surely kept the little ones occupied.

“The resounding response and support received from our listeners always delights us. We are a family-orientated station and we pride ourselves with competitive content and entertainment,” says Kevin Fine, General Manager at Jacaranda FM.

“Thank you to Discovery, our listeners, the City of Tshwane and everyone who made this event a great success,” concludes Fine.

@JhbProperty Celebrating Diversity and Culture on #HeritageDay #CityofJohannesburg

Hi Guys,

Recently, the Joburg Property Company (JPC), an agency of the City of Johannesburg, completed the Council Chamber building north of Rissik Street. This building contains the stories of the residents of Johannesburg, told in visual form through the unique creation of 134 beautifully carved Totems.

It was fitting that the competition for those Totems commenced over Heritage Day in 2016. These Totems were once again in the spotlight when the JPC was listed as a finalist in the prestigious BASA (Business and Arts South Africa) annual awards ceremony held on 17 September 2017 at the Nirox Sculpture Park in the Cradle of Humankind.
@JhbProperty Celebrating Diversity and Culture on #HeritageDay #CityofJohannesburg
The BASA Awards this year highlighted the great partnerships that can be formed between business and the city. Once again it highlights the absolute need to ensure that the arts remain integral part of our society – growing cultural capital and social engagement and brings it all together to celebrate our heritage.

Heritage Day is a truly beautiful day. A day when South Africans of all creeds and cultures come together to celebrate their diversity. Now that may seem like a paradox, but celebrating the vast array of beliefs and traditions that make up our rich heritage, does just that… Brings us together. In fact, it firmly roots us as a nation that belongs to all its colourful people – a nation that can celebrate who we are individually and collectively.

Celebrating our cultures, in all their beautifully diverse forms, helps to build us towards a South Africa of the future. Heritage Day is about capturing this unique spirit of our nation on an ongoing basis, not just celebrating a day on the South African calendar. Over the centuries, one of the most important ways culture has been celebrated and transferred, is through the visual arts. And the Council Chamber Totems which are now in full view of the public and the councillors, do just that on a daily basis.

One young girl took ownership of her artwork in a way that a seasoned artist would and wanted to understand exactly what the next steps were to be involved in this process. Others were just overjoyed and could not believe their artwork would be displayed in those hallowed corridors. Their pride was overwhelming to community leaders and humbling to others.

Johannesburg has been a cosmopolitan city from the outset – a burgeoning community built on diversity. From the San people who originally inhabited the region, to the groups of Bantu-speaking people who started moving southwards from Central Africa by the 13th Century, to people who flocked here from far and wide in the Gold Rush of the late 1800’s, Johannesburg, Jozi, eGoli, Plek van Goud, is no stranger to multiplicity and the uniqueness it brings. With this colourful palette of history and culture as a backdrop, participants in the art competition were able to draw on and express their personal Jozi experiences, perspectives and heritage.
@JhbProperty Celebrating Diversity and Culture on #HeritageDay #CityofJohannesburg
In the spirit of Ubuntu, the selected artworks were each awarded with R5000, but the greatest prize that could have been given, was the overwhelming sense of pride in seeing their work memorialised.

Visitors are now able to enjoy the experience of walking the circular floors of the Chamber, complimented by the towering 2 metre high totems framing magnificent city views. Each totem carries the name of the artist at the bottom of the piece.

Heritage Day is a day to celebrate the contributions of all South Africans to the building of a nation. In this vein, the Totem Art Competition praises the honoured traditions of the citizens of Johannesburg and the contributions they have made in making our City what it is today. When the competition kicked off, JPC invited residents to take part in leaving a lasting legacy… And collectively, they have certainly done just that.

DJ Tira Massacres #RedBullCultureClash 2017 Opponents @RedBullZA #Jozi

Hi Guys,

The energy at Orlando Stadium was electrifying on the evening of 23 September 2017 as four epic Sound Systems battled it out for the Red Bull Culture Clash South Africa 2017 crown.

Over four intensely competitive rounds, AKA fronting Top Boyz Sound System, battled it out against DJ Tira’s Durban Massacre Sound System, Patoranking and Red Hot Sound System and Admiral & Jahseed with African Storm - each repping their respective genres - hip hop, house, afro-beats and reggae. In the end, it was DJ Tira and Durban Massacre Sound System that won over the crowd and took the coveted title.

Hosts Siyabonga ‘Scoop Makhathini’ Ngwekazi and Thapelo Mokoena’s on-stage chemistry kept the energy high between rounds as each one brought with it even more entertainment for the fans.

The four sound systems, each comprised of a heavyweight line-up of artists, delivered one-of-a-kind performances at the world’s most innovative live music experience – Red Bull Culture Clash. To add to the suspense, each crew threw out exciting custom dubplate specials* with highlights including Jub Jub (as part of Top Boyz) remixing famous gospel song, Ndikhokhele Bawo, earning them an overwhelming response from the crowd.

The crews battled it out to the very end and kept true to their original fan promise to bring ‘everything they had on the night’. Surprise acts are a big part of the excitement of Red Bull Culture Clash, and fans never know what to expect. International reggae star, Beenie Man’s appearance, which was part of African Storm and Red Hot’s surprise guest, Zola, got the crowd going, but adding the strong throwback from Mdu Masilela to the mix helped seal the deal for Durban Massacre.

Overwhelmed by his win, DJ Tira was proud to hoist the winner’s title belt: “Winning this title means a lot to me because it shows people that Gqom and Durban house is here to stay, and will dominate and shape future sounds. That’s all we ever wanted to do - stay true to ourselves and where we come from. We gave people what they wanted and they responded to the genuine, heartfelt music we shared. That’s what it’s all about and we are proud to solidify our sound further. Thanks to the music lovers and supporters, it wouldn’t be possible without them.”

The Culture Clash concept was introduced in the UK in 2010, by the Red Bull Music Academy. It is Red Bull’s longest-standing music programme and has since made its way around the world, to cities such as New York, Lisbon and Paris. Red Bull Culture Clash is based on the classic Jamaican sound system culture. It’s defined by the use of cutting-edge lyrics, fierce competition and ridiculously loud sound systems.

After attending the media invite 2 weeks before the show, I predicted that DJ Tira will win the show and indeed he did. Though he himself look calm and composed but once he is behind his machine, his music makes you dance on your feet and go crazy! Kudos! Heartiest Congratulations!!!

The app My JBL SoundBoost 2, allows users to adjust the sound to personal preferences.

With a thinner, lighter design and faster performance, the second-generation Moto Z Play delivers incredible features, and enables unlimited possibilities with all-new Moto Mods. THE RETREET – For The Love of Life! #Women #Johannesburg

Hi Guys,

“For a tree to become tall it must grow tough roots among the rocks.”
~ Friedrich Nietsche ~

This is the start of something amazing…the smell of fresh country air, the sight of a number of rolling hills and countless trees, the feeling that you have arrived and that you probably never want to leave! We like to call it, The Retreet. Which has indeed been spelt “correctly” because it has two meanings…the meaning of ‘a place to relax’ as many of us would know a retreat as, but we have also used the word ‘tree’ in the name to represent the significant symbolism of trees of which a few include strength, wisdom, beauty and protection. So yes, we do like to consider ourselves just that, a relaxed haven, set in nature with the best intention to empower and inspire women!
THE RETREET – For The Love of Life! #Women #Johannesburg
Well that may sound like a bold statement, but let’s repeat the last few words, empower and inspire women…and yes, we say it like that because in the day of the 20th century, with technology as one of our only empowering tools, the boss/media/partner/husband or child as our instructor, it is time that women took a stance again and put our values where they will be most valued – and that is within!

“You can tell who the strong women are; they’re the ones building each other up instead of tearing each other down”
~Unknown~
THE RETREET – For The Love of Life! #Women #Johannesburg
This is no ‘burn the bra’ society or feminist group, we simply reference ourselves as a women sanctuary where women will be inspired, express themselves through creativity or just let their hair down and have some fun:

BE INSPIRED: Through the words of well versed, experienced and most of all, life trained coaches we aim to inspire women through an array of topics to encourage conversation and from that action to only make your life and the choices we make a better one.

CREATIVITY: We want women to use the art of creation to further encourage them by not only teaching them something new, or converting something from nothing to something, but to also recognise that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, because after all we are all unique and this is an opportunity for women to truly express themselves.

FUN: Who doesn’t agree that laughter is one of the best forms of medication? After all life is meant to be lived, and in it we should laugh loud and laugh often. We want women to forget about their worries and cherish moments such as these to have a bit of fun!
THE RETREET – For The Love of Life! #Women #Johannesburg
At the end of the day, The Retreet is not run by Professors or Doctors, but women who feel the desperate need to give other women a chance to be the best that they can be, so we want to provide a platform for all women, from all walks of life and speakers and facilitators from all spheres of knowledge to come and just make life a better one for all!

At the end of the day, it is your job to influence, innovate, inspire and be fearless! And that is no easy task. So now is the time, do it for the love of your LIFE! Be the game changer.
THE RETREET – For The Love of Life! #Women #Johannesburg
The Retreet offers various packages and events to suit your individual or group needs. From inspirational talks and workshops to self-expressive creative classes with refreshments and lunch included. Visit their website at www.theretreet.co.za for more information or contact them at ask@theretreet.co.za for more information.

A Memoir - This Month Last Year - Sep 2016 www.thelifesway.com #TheLifesWay

Hi Guys,

September is the start of the spring season and also the launch events starting from iPhone to many others who wants to cash in on the festival season in India. This is the time when Hindu community starts their celebrations towards the festival of lights and in Johannesburg Spring Walks is the talk of the season which converts to Jacaranda takes the center stage in October.

1. Escape to Planet rAge - The Awesome Gaming Expo 07 to 09 October 2016 @rAgeExpo @TicketProDome - http://www.thelifesway.com/2016/09/escape-to-planet-rage-awesome-gaming.html - rAge has been one of my favourite events and this was my 3rd year at the show and this time I went with my family. The show was fully packed and there was no space to walk too. I really missed the CNA shop but there has been some new brands to showcase their latest gaming technology. Again this year rAge expo will celebrate it's 15th anniversary and it's going to be even bigger and better. I am looking forward to this year's event.

2. Sometimes you do a lot of stuff for several brands but receive nothing in return, so is the case with Huawei. I have always tried to win their sponsorship to get one of the best product either Mate series or the P series smartphone but it never happened till now. The number of posts I have done for them is much more than their most of the sponsored media and celebrities also but still nothing in return. These are all the posts in a single month of September 2016 for the brands leading to hundreds of tweets, retweets and other social media sharings.
3. Acer Africa too launched several products this year as well as in IFA 2016 and send me various press releases to share on my channels. This year they launched their online shop and you can buy some of their products at some amazing deal prices at shopacer.co.za

This brand also feels that my social media influence is not that much but never received the data from their end as to how much it is? Sometimes, it makes me think to close down The Life's Way social media channels but then I see a lot of unfinished tasks at my hands that I can't close this business in such adversaries.

4. Lenovo in all my engagements till now, I have only received one 4gb pendrive that too at one smartphone launch and nothing else. I don't know what to say about the same but here are some posts which I did for them in Sep 2016.

5. A Memoir - This Month Last Year - Sep 2015 www.thelifesway.com #TheLifesWay - http://www.thelifesway.com/2016/11/a-memoir-this-month-last-year-sep-2015.html - My favorite stories from last years September and connecting the dots during those times.

Spring Cleaning can be applied to all parts of your life if I think about it, it can be used to clean all those brands and PR companies where you are getting nothing in kind or favour. As social media is all about give and take and If I am not getting benefits out of the brand, I won't invest my time and efforts into that brand. It can also be applied to all your old stuff which you haven't used in the last year. It's just that we are attached to so many things and always think that it might be handy sometime or someday but that time never comes and we are caught in that vicious circle all the time.

Cheers!!!

Hi Guys,

Believing that what you create and bring into the world must be exceptional and has been the primary goal of Danish audio and television manufacturer Bang & Olufsen since 1925. “One of the most beautiful things about the brand is the design, that’s why we are so excited about being at the Silo District because it’s all about design…” says Shannon Rogotzki, Director of Bang & Olufsen South Africa, to Ryan O’ Connor on KFM.
@BangOlufsenSA Opens at V&A Waterfront #CapeTown #LikeNoOneElse #BangOlufsenSilo
The brand offers consumers A-V equipment from a completely different point of view - that will leave them in awe while at the same time creating an emotional remembrance.

@BangOlufsenSA Opens at V&A Waterfront #CapeTown #LikeNoOneElse #BangOlufsenSilo
Don’t forget to relax in our experience room for a moment. The B&O experience room secretly hides the majestic BeoVision 85” on a motorised stand and the top of range BeoLab 90 loudspeakers that pushes out 8200 watts of pure digital Bang & Olufsen Signature sound. Upon noticing them you feel goosebumps running through your body because you already know you are in for an experience like no other. All you need to do is sit back on the fine leather couches and take in the beautiful sight and sound you are about to witness.

Upon opening our doors to the public we are proud to launch two new products that everyone is looking forward to experience. The first is BeoSound Shape, a new wireless “off the wall” speaker system focused on the design conscious music lover. Designed by renowned Danish designer Olivind Slatto, the idea for BeoSound Shape was actually inspired by honeycombs & snowflakes due to their hexagon pattern. It was immediately decided that this will be the primary form because it will give audiophiles the freedom to constantly expand and build onto it until a unique design and optimised sound experience is achieved.
@BangOlufsenSA Opens at V&A Waterfront #CapeTown #LikeNoOneElse #BangOlufsenSilo
The second is BeoLab 50. A new wireless loudspeaker designed in light of BeoLab 5, the main objective for creating BeoLab 50 is to connect past & present Bang & Olufsen products with the latest technology used today. Amongst all the amazing features that are built into BeoLab 50, there is one that stands out and that’s the mechanical movement of the Acoustic Lens. We’re sure you have all seen the B&O Acoustic Lens pop-up from the dash of an Aston Martin either through a video or at an Aston Martin dealership at some stage, and we have to admit its absolutely amazing to see that.

Well, that’s what designers Thorsten Frackenpohl and Andre Poulheim achieved when they designed BeoLab 50. When the speaker is activated the acoustic lens slowly appears from the silver polished aluminium top and lights up. However, the acoustic lens has now been upgraded and gives you the ability to control the sound dispersion by achieving a wider or narrower listening experience.

@JhbProperty Sweeps up Best Public Services Development Award #IPA2017 in Dubai

Hi Guys,

Joburg Property Company (JPC), managers of the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) property portfolio, have been instrumental in the conceptual design of the Council Chamber which was inspired by the SeTswana word “Lekgotla”, an outdoor meeting space which is circular in form. The JPC was honoured when it was shortlisted in the Public Services Development category for the International Property Awards (IPA) because of the very nature of the building and its purpose. The JPC was delighted and particularly proud when the award was presented to the JPC as the winner in this category where there were 14 entries in total for Africa and Arabia. This award was presented at the prestigious IPA ceremony held on 7 September 2017 at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in Dubai.

Being a part of the IPA Public Services Development category has shown that the Council Chamber,a world class architectural innovation which is not an anomaly in South Africa but in a globally competitive property development environment, stands as one of the best in its class. This award has given JPC the opportunity to showcase the Chamber and its surrounding Piazza.

The vision was to consolidate the municipality’s office space, which was dispersed through the city and rented from third parties, into one specific location owned by the municipality. Through this process, the Council Chamber and the surrounding planned Metro Centre will act as a catalyst for future mixed-use development – thus promoting investment, economic growth and job creation in the city centre.
@JhbProperty Sweeps up Best Public Services Development Award #IPA2017 in Dubai
The vision was therefore for the Metro Centre to become the epi-centre of efficient operations and services for the City of Johannesburg. In addition, the precinct would become a civic landmark, a beacon that evokes civic pride and identity. The relationship of the Metro Centre to its immediate urban context is therefore pivotal to encouraging this civic identity.

The inside of the Chamber has been designed in such a way that it provides seating capacity for 361 councillors and 158 seats in the gallery for the public and media – 80 seats more than is currently required, in order to cater for future expansion. The state-of-the-art audio-visual and delegate system is fully programmable and completely customised to be updated in line with any future changes in the way that the Chamber operates. 500 Jobs were created from the surrounding communities.

The form itself is that of a transparent drum – a cylindrical structure enveloped entirely by a glass façade with vertical glass fins covering the curved outer skin of the building. The glass building envelope enables an uninterrupted visual link between the indoor and surrounding outdoor spaces. This allows the outside world to have a visual connection with the building’s occupants, which is symbolic of a constant dialogue between the public and municipal officials

The architect therefore wanted to celebrate African principles of space- making, while incorporating smart technologies and green building systems. The open air Piazza alongside the Chamber encourages the local community to come together and enjoy the various aspects that have been built for their leisure and enjoyment such as the outdoor gym, children’s playground and chess set.

The art that was selected for the inside of the building, has in its simplicity and design, been selected to ensure that a story is told from past and present using not only art forms but also different forms of material from copper to steel, from canvas to glass. As the years go by, the story will still be told in the way that it should be, that of the journey of Johannesburg and its residents to that of freedom within the city.

One of the unique features of the building was the Council Chamber Totem Art Competition 2016 (open to both young and old, professionals and hopefuls) invited artists to submit drawings, paintings and prints that told a unique story about their community and their community’s history. The winning designs have been translated into wooden totems placed inside the Council Chamber building. To stand a chance of being selected, citizens were encouraged to base their designs on the overarching theme of warmth and inclusivity at the new Chamber. More importantly, their totems needed to embody and represent the distinctive stories of the inhabitants of their respective communities. From over 500 entries, 134 winners were selected. The youngest entrants were of a pre-primary school age; and the oldest were mature adults. As permanent fixtures woven into the fabric of the Council Chamber’s design, these totems will stand as testaments to the people of Johannesburg and their heritage.

The building stands tall and proud and those that work and live in Johannesburg are reminded every day of the emerging skyline that is changing within the Johannesburg CBD and that we will once again have a city that is world class and visited by millions of tourists every year.

@rAgeExpo is All Set to Celebrate 15 Years of Awesome Gaming #EscapetoPlanetrAge 6-8 Oct2017

Hi Guys,

As rAge prepares to celebrate 15 years of awesome gaming, technology, gadgets and all things geek, exhibitors and visitors are gearing up for a festival of fun like never before.

To celebrate #15yearsofawesome, rAge and NAG have added a little extra to the mix. There’s a massive prize giveaway (valued at over R100,000.00) for visitors to potentially win. Details on this “once in a rAge lifetime” competition are available on the NAG website, or look out for the Prize Box at Entrance 1 to The Ticketpro Dome, which will be filled with all the awesome goodies that have been sponsored by the rAge exhibitors.

Michael James, Senior Project Manager of rAge, has this to say: “15 years of rAge. Wow. I remember a line from the movie Meet Joe Black, where Anthony Hopkins talks about getting older, and he says, “65 years. Don't they go by in a blink?” It’s always a rollercoaster ride getting to rAge each year. So much hard work by so many people isn’t something you forget easily, nor is it something that goes by in a blink. It’s been one hell of a journey from our first terrifying event back in 2002 to what we’re doing now in 2017, an incredible 15 years later. It’s still terrifying, but always amazing, always exciting, always a learning experience that’s different each year. It’s a bit obvious and clichéd to say I look forward to the next 15, but I really do. I love this job. I wouldn’t do anything else.”

rAge is also proud to announce VS Gaming as the headline sponsor for rAge this year. The ever-increasing focus and growth that rAge has seen over the past few years for spectator and esports activities means that this partnership will further highlight the importance of competitive gaming in South Africa.

“We as VS Gaming are extremely excited to be the headline sponsor of rAge for 2017. rAge is a significant stakeholder in the gaming industry and this partnership means together we can help grow the esports industry as a whole, which is fundamentally our main aim. rAge is where we play our champions league and where the best and most professional players showcase their talents, and it is this professional segment that is the main pillar of VS Gaming,” says Cambridge Mokanyane, CEO of VS Gaming.

In addition, OMEN by HP, along with Intel, Aruba and MWEB, are sponsoring the NAG LAN.

“We are inspired by the increasing role of competition in the modern gaming lifestyle, the new OMEN by HP line is built for today’s gaming community. OMEN by HP is bringing gamers a completely new portfolio of products this summer, leveraging customer insights from the gaming community, to give esports athletes and competitive gamers an edge. This new range will be available at the OMEN by HP store at rAge. Along with reinventing the OMEN portfolio, partnering with rAge demonstrates HP’s focus on the growth of esports in South Africa,” said David Rozzio, HP Inc. South Africa Managing Director.

“With the launch of a new, cutting-edge and comprehensive portfolio of OMEN by HP gaming products, HP is celebrating the competitive spirit that burns inside all gamers,” he added. “HP is dedicating itself to helping grow esports by investing in the culture, and our partnership with rAge is a big step in pursuing that goal,” concluded David.
