Bolt Food is Bringing Jozi’s favourite Meals Home @Boltapp_za #BoltFood

Bolt Food has launched its food delivery services in Johannesburg, giving the city’s residents access to food deliveries from more than 300 restaurants and fast-food outlets.

This follows the success of Bolt Food in Cape Town, where more than 800 restaurants have been added to the food app since it launched in April 2020.

“We piloted Bolt Food in Cape Town last year, with outstanding results,” says James Townsend-Rose, Country Manager for Bolt Food in South Africa. “Restaurants and their customers welcomed Bolt Food’s affordable prices and quick deliveries, and we are excited to bring this solution to Johannesburg, and to other South African cities in the coming months.”

Bolt Food will deliver Joburg customers’ orders from a wide range of restaurants and fast-food outlets, including Burger King, Pizza Hut, Subway, Andiccio’s, Del Forno and many others.

The service is currently available from Bryanston in the north to Braamfontein in the heart of the city and will expand across the city as more restaurants join the platform.

Food delivery fees will not be charged for orders where the distance between the food outlet and the delivery destination is less than 4.5 kilometres for the launch period. Bolt Food will offer competitive discounts of up to 50% on food orders from selected restaurants within that period too.

What’s more, Absa customers can get up to 30% cashback on their Bolt Food orders paid for with qualifying cards – making Bolt Food even more appealing.

They’re among the millions of South Africans who already know, trust, and love the Bolt brand, and who can now turn to Bolt Food for their foo0d orders from restaurants listed on the platform to be delivered quickly and affordably.

Food couriers that use Bolt Food to deliver restaurants’ food to their customers also benefit from the Johannesburg launch, with each of them being empowered to own and build their own micro-business. Drivers earn a standard fee and payments for time and mileage for completing each delivery and can choose the hours and locations to offer their service.

@MakwaIT and @Cisco_SA Bring Cutting Edge Technology to #Diepsloot Community #MakwaIT #CuriosityInnovates

Cisco and Makwa-IT have today come together to tackle the grassroots development challenges faced in South Africa through the announcement of their support of the Wot-if? Trust who manage and initiate a number of programmes and projects based on expressed community needs with a focus on CSI, Socio-Economic, Enterprise and Supplier Development programmes in Diepsloot.

At a launch event at the Wot-if? premises, the program will see Makwa-IT donating resources to deploy networking technologies to the non-profit organisation (NPO), which will help them realise significant gains in productivity, scalability, and cost-efficiency, exclusively using Cisco solutions.

Wot-if? enables platforms, programs and spaces in Diepsloot that connect local small business owners and entrepreneurs with opportunities that aid them in generating sustainable incomes, enhancing livelihoods for the entrepreneur and the community members they are connected to.

Wot-if?’s focus on the fields of transformation, social innovation and community development encourages the creation of self-sustaining initiatives based on innovative models that are replicable, scalable and measurable.

So it is that, when the NPO found itself subjected to a malware attack on its server, which placed it in an extremely precarious position in as far as its stored information, they found themselves in need of a technological solutions partner. Enter Makwa-IT and Cisco.

The solution presented was Cisco Meraki, which enables cloud-controlled Wi-Fi, routing, and security. With Makwa-IT, the deployment of the Meraki software will allow Wot-if? to manage their devices using cloud-based centralised management and run diagnostics on secure and high-quality wireless/wired networks.

“Our facilities in Diepsloot serve members of the community in a number of ways, but shared computers open us up to viruses, malware and cyber-attacks. The Cisco hardware and software offers us security (both physical and cyber) in ways we never thought possible,” says Gail Styger, Founder and Trustee at Wot-If?. “The Meraki software will allow us to improve and better manage our service offering.

“For the small businesses and community organisations we support, this equipment and show of support is a huge vote of confidence, not only in the work we do but in the participants who use our facilities - it shows in a very tangible way that they are worth investing in.”

Not just a box drop

Yasmin Kirton, Global EMEAR Commercial Director at Cisco vision in Africa is to support the digitization of businesses, communities, and government through several initiatives with skills and talent development, innovation and job creation.

The ripple effect that comes from all technological improvements is an investment in education and it was important that users not only have access to the technology but also the skills development needed to best use it for their own economic empowerment.

“Cisco and Makwa-IT delivered the technical scope (end-to-end) including implementation and training. Our goal with this project was to leave the Wot-if? centre more digitally enabled to meet its day-to-day service goals for the community of Diepsloot. We also wanted to ensure that Wot-if?’s vision of becoming a leading tech hub for skills development in young children could be realised.

“The project began with us conducting face to face customer consultations, to understand their business objectives and mapping them to our solutions. From the architectural design, we put together the technical proposal and the scope of work that was needed to meet their objectives. This included the funding of equipment, resources and the teams needed to make this a success. The outcome was an architectural design that would give the Wot-if? centre cutting edge capabilities in today’s digital economy.”

Lethabo Mokone, Founder and CEO of Makwa-IT Technologies, says the only way to ensure that the benefits of digital transformation are felt throughout the country is to drive accessibility to the technology but adds that this is only one part of a far greater education and inclusivity deliverable.

“We have to inform, educate and create accessibility to see tangible change and this is something that we take great pride in whether it be through our ICT skills incubation drive or support of the Wot-if? trust, community value and empowering communities are at the heart of what we aim to achieve,” he says.

Renewable Electricity Is Now Brewing Refreshing Beer @CastleLiteSA #SwitchToRenewable

The last week in South Africa has reinforced exactly why Castle Lite is switching to brew their extra cold refreshment with renewable electricity. Electricity supply constraints that result in frequent load shedding means South Africans are regularly left in the dark. All too often, there is simply not enough electricity to go around. This not only gets in the way of our ambitions as individuals and as a nation but also hinders our ability to dial-up our enjoyment at the moment. In order to ensure that they draw less electricity from our national grid, Castle Lite has announced that it is switching to renewable electricity to brew its beer.

With this switch, Africa’s largest premium lite beer is on a journey to make sure that all South Africans are able to enjoy life and their extra cold Castle Lite to the max, without interruption. All seven of their breweries within South Africa contribute to this through solar power, with Alrode brewery in Johannesburg also making use of biogas facilities. As of January – August this year they have already generated over 9.7GWh of renewable electricity. This switch has also resulted in 9 443 tons of Co2 emissions reductions since the start of the year.

And this is just the start, the brand is on a journey to be 100% brewed with renewable electricity and to fully “switch to renewable” sources by 2025, ensuring that they use all options available to further reduce the load they take from the national grid. The move is directly in line with The South African Breweries (SAB) and holding company, Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev), globally committing to the 2025 Sustainability Goals in climate action by adding renewable electricity capacity to regional grids and reducing CO2 emissions across the globe.

“We know how important sustainability and our environmental future is for South Africa, but sometimes, it feels like such a big task that we can’t do anything to make a difference. As a brand that prides itself on innovation, Castle Lite is making the switch to brew with renewable electricity in order to ensure that making a difference is easier. Our consumers can do their bit by choosing a beer that is not only hugely enjoyable and super refreshing but is also reducing its load on the national power supply with its production, ensuring there is more to go around. 6 Ways to Take Care of Your #GalaxyZFlip3 @SamsungMobileSA #FriendsOfFlip

As you set up your Galaxy Z Flip3 5G smartphone, there are some instructions that appear on the screen showing 6 ways to take care of your smartphone and here are the same - 

• Pressing the screen or the front camera lens with a hard or sharp object such as a pen or fingernail may cause damage such as scratches or dents. 
• When you fold the phone, make sure there's nothing such as a card, keys or coins.
• This phone isn't dust resistant. Exposure to small particles such as sand may cause damage. 
• This phone is water-resistant (IPX8). immersion in any liquid other than freshwaters such as saltwater or alcohol can damage your phone. 
• Don't remove the protective film on the main screen or apply unapproved films or stickers as doing so can damage your screen. 
• Your phone contains agents. Keep it away from credit cards, implantable medical devices or other devices that may be affected by magnets. 

Basically, it tells the owners of the smartphone that Galaxy Z Flip 3 is waterproof in fresh water and not dustproof. You shall not do any kind of play with this phone at the sea or near the beach. Be totally aware of any sand particles entering the hinge or any other part of the smartphone. 

Secondly, due to the foldable screen, you shall take care of the device while flipping it so that nothing comes between the two parts of the screen. Also, don't try to install any other protective film other than the one already in place by Samsung. 

Lastly, as the phone has magnets, so place it away from stuff like hotel keys, credit cards or medical devices like pacemakers installed in your heart if any. 

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G is an expensive smartphone so you will need to take great care of the device. Samsung has tried its level best to perfect it by taking care of multiple points in this affordable version of the foldable smartphone but the rest now lies in the hands of the beholder like myself and others who are using this smartphone. 

I am sure I will be able to take good care of this smartphone by buying an external cover from Samsung. I really liked the one in Leather and the same is priced around R999. I will find the same at the nearest Samsung store and buy the same soon enough to protect the outside area of the smartphone too in flipped position. I think Samsung shall provide a basic version of silicon cover when you buy a foldable smartphone like the same but then it will fail the purpose of sustainability because people who will buy such expensive phones will have their own choice of covers installed to reflect their richness or personality. What are your thoughts on this?

Smart Switch Makes It Easier To Move from Old World to New Galaxy @SamsungMobileSA #SwitchToGalaxy

Hi Friends, 

I recently moved from my old Samsung Galaxy Note 8 smartphone to the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G smartphone and this was my first foldable phone ever from Samsung other than the basic one in the shape of the car which my brother gifted me long ago. The same in the red colour I never used because it was only working with a single telecom operator and I was not a subscriber of that operator in India. 

When I thought of setting it up, I mistakenly thought of Smart Switch as generally I love setting up a new device in a new way with taking out all the previous apps and only taking data which is necessary but considering the amount of space new Galaxy Z  Flip3 5G has and which is a massive 256 GB, I thought of taking all my data along with songs, contacts, pictures, videos and installed apps across the platform to the new device. 

The Smart Switch is really intelligent as it asks which operating system (iOS or Android) is on your old device, and what medium you want the data to take place by - options being cable or wifi. My choice was really simple an android smartphone to a new android smartphone and on a wi-fi network only. The first step it did was to install the smart switch app on both smartphones and establish a connection between the two devices. It asked me also what content type (data, documents, SMS, contacts, video, audio, pictures etc) I wanted to move across to the new device and I checked all the options provided to me which are tabulated below - 

1. Accounts - Google and Samsung accounts are automatically transferred to your new Galaxy smartphone. It doesn't mean the old phone loses those but it creates a copy in the new phone also. 
2. Calls and Contacts - All your call history and contact list are created on your new smartphone. 1MB calls and contacts were there in my case. Ironically the main feature for which phones were used only takes so less space still and other features are taking a lot of the space like images and videos etc. 
3. Messages - This is something which I have missed over the years as and when I have changed smartphones. These get lost with the last smartphone but now they are also getting created into the new phone. I wanted them because it has the vaccination code or details which will get me to generate the new PDF version online later. 1MB messages only in my case. 
4. Apps - All your installed apps are also installed into the new smartphone. This feature makes your life really easy else sometimes you forget the names of the apps if not used in a long time. Around 3GB of apps for my case. 
5. Settings - All your settings are also migrated and recreated into the new smartphone. It was just 7MB in my case. 
6. Home Screen - If you have created any settings for your home screen those will be enabled in the new smartphone also. 21MB in total for me. 
7. Secure Folder - This is something Samsung smartphones has to take care of all your special documents, photographs or anything of importance which you don't want anyone to access without the security features known to them. In case they know your pattern etc then you should change it immediately.
8. Images - All your folders in the gallery of photos taken using your smartphone will be copied into your new smartphone too so the seamless experience can continue but now you need to remember which photos you clicked using which smartphone but don't worry details can tell you everything about the photograph in question. The best part is all your WhatsApp images, Instagram images and any other downloaded photos will also be migrated. 15 GB of images I had.
9. Video - All your videos are also copied across to the Galaxy device. This is the part that takes a lot of time because of the sheer size of taking 4k video files. 18 GB of videos were there in my case. 
10. Audio - All your downloaded songs or any files you saved on your device will also be copied to your new phone and in my case, I observed the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 is a jukebox in itself as it can produce such nice loud audio without distortion even when in flipped position via its speakers. 3GB of audio files were there in my case. 
11. Documents and Files - All your important bank statements, credit card bills or any other invoices you have received or ebooks you have downloaded will be transferred to the new smartphone. This really makes life easy as you can continue to read them on the new phone and don't need to redownload from your emails in case required. 1GB of documents were there in my case.

There are certain data that can't be transferred using the Smart Switch App -

• Contacts: Contacts saved on the SIM card, SNS (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), Google accounts, and work email accounts are excluded.
•  S Planner: Appointments synced with external accounts, such as Google, and calendar stickers are excluded.
•  App data: Data saved in private storage cannot be backed up but once you log in the details in your new smartphone it will reappear from the same cloud. 
•  Email: Social Hub and Premium accounts (Push email) are excluded.
•  Live wallpapers and themes: Live wallpapers and themes are excluded. You can reinstall these from the Galaxy Store. I am sure you won't want to install the same wallpapers on your new smartphone as Samsung always provides some unique wallpapers and themes for new Galaxy Smartphones. 

The overall process also tells you the time it will take and the total data transferred and selected by you. In my case, the data size was around 43GB and it showed around 26 minutes to do so. The best part is if you have a micro-SD card installed in your old device all data on that can also be considered for transfer to a new phone. 

While the whole process continues to work towards completion in the background, the phone allows you to create content using the new smartphone camera and access other apps too. This is something great but you need to keep it together with the old smartphone in the same wifi environment. Else if you use a data cable to transfer then you can complete the process anywhere. Data cables are the ones provided these days in smartphone packages. 

I am thankful to Samsung Electronics for making this process quite seamless using the Samsung Smart Switch Mobile app available on Google Play store and even on iOS. When I was doing the unboxing for my smartphone, I created this video and it includes the whole process too in case you want to watch it. Check it out here - 

For me, the whole process took around 2 hours running in the background which also made the phone little heat up but overall it's a great feature that doesn't need your manual intervention. I was also charging the phone concurrently as it just came out of the box/package and I was charging it for the first time so maybe it was using all the resources in its full capacity which built up the heat but I am sure the phone is capable to handle it easily. In my case, I stress tested the smartphone on the first day itself but I am totally in love with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G in Phantom Black colour. The concept was born in 2010 when the French gastronomic meal and its rituals were recognised as an intangible UNESCO cultural heritage. This prompted the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the multi-starred chef, Alain Ducasse, to launch the label Good France for the best French-inspired restaurants across the globe to be part of the celebration.

Arbour Café has been chosen by the French Embassy to take part in this exceptional culinary event; which runs until Friday 22 October 2021.

“We are very excited to have been invited by the French Embassy to participate,” says co-owner Larry Hodes. “After all, we are a French-inspired café, and we embrace any opportunity to delight our customers and their palates. This year is the 6th edition and will focus on the strong resilience of the restaurant industry in the context of the pandemic which is something we are navigating ourselves”
